Service Overview

The plain-English version.

What it is

Design, installation, repair and upgrade of wet central heating systems: boilers, radiators, pipework, valves, pumps, controls and system water treatment.

Who it's for

Homeowners with cold rooms, noisy pipes or ancient controls; anyone extending or renovating; landlords needing reliable heat before winter.

When you need it

When rooms won't get warm evenly, when radiators are cold at the top or bottom, when the pump is loud, when the boiler is being replaced, or when you're already opening floors for other work.

Why use a professional

A heating system that's designed and balanced correctly cuts fuel bills, keeps the boiler under warranty, and — quietly — adds real comfort to daily life for years.

Left Too Long?

Small problem now.
Big bill later.

The cheapest time to deal with a plumbing or heating fault is almost always now. Water damage, gas issues and system stress compound quickly — the invoice grows with them.

If you leave it

  • Sludge in the system corrodes the boiler heat exchanger — a bill measured in thousands.
  • Under-sized radiators keep the boiler firing constantly, wasting gas and shortening its life.
  • Failed motorised valves silently heat rooms and cylinders you weren't intending to.
  • Old open-vented systems drawing in air keep pumping oxygen into the pipework — accelerating rust in every radiator.

Common DIY mistakes

  • Bleeding radiators repeatedly without asking why the air keeps returning.
  • Fitting decorative radiators without recalculating heat output — pretty, cold rooms.
  • Using tap water to top up sealed systems instead of pre-treated inhibitor mix.
  • Fitting TRVs on the wrong side and killing the pump differential.
Our Process

Predictable. Documented.
Signed off.

You get the same sequence every time — so there are no surprises on the invoice and nothing missed on the job sheet.

  1. 01

    System survey

We measure room heat loss, count and check radiators, inspect pipework and controls, and take a system water sample.

  2. 02

    Written quote

Fixed proposal covering equipment, treatment (flush/clean), controls and any pipework changes.

  3. 03

    Protection & prep

Floors and carpets protected. Isolate, drain, and — where needed — power flush.

  4. 04

    Install & upgrade

New pipework in copper or MLCP, correctly-sized radiators, TRVs, pump and controls to spec.

  5. 05

    Fill & balance

Refill with inhibitor, purge air, and balance every radiator so heat is even top to bottom, front to back.

  6. 06

    Commission & handover

Boiler benchmarked, controls demonstrated, paperwork issued.

What You Actually Get

Concrete outcomes,
not marketing fluff.

Even, quiet heat

Balanced systems mean every radiator delivers its share — no cold corners, no clanging pipes.

Lower gas bills

Correct sizing, proper controls and clean water can cut fuel bills 15–25% versus a neglected system.

Longer boiler life

Magnetic filter, inhibitor and a clean fill protect your boiler warranty and its actual lifespan.

Zonable comfort

Split the house into sensible heating zones — no more heating a spare room to keep a bathroom warm.

Compatible controls

We wire mainstream smart controls correctly — Nest, Hive, Vaillant vSMART — not a bodge.

One team

Design, plumbing and gas all under one roof — no juggling trades.

The Detail

Materials, methods, and where the money goes.

Central heating is a system, not just a boiler. When any one component is wrong — sizing, controls, water quality, pipework — the whole house suffers.

System types: sealed vs open-vented

Modern sealed systems (with expansion vessel and filling loop) are the norm on combi and system installs — less oxygen ingress, cleaner water, longer component life. Older open-vented systems (with a feed-and-expansion tank in the loft) still exist across West London stock and can be perfectly serviceable; we'll advise if converting to sealed makes sense during a boiler swap.

Radiators: sizing, style, valves

Radiators must be sized on heat loss, not on what looked right visually. We calculate room-by-room and match output. Style options include standard convectors, low-surface-temperature units for nurseries/bathrooms, and vertical designer radiators — all quoted with the correct BTU rating for the room.

Power flush vs chemical clean

A power flush uses a high-flow, low-pressure machine to physically shift sludge and debris from radiators and pipework. It's the right call on dirty systems or before a new boiler on an existing installation. Cleaner systems can be handled with a chemical clean plus magnetic filter. We assess water quality on the survey and quote accordingly.

Controls, TRVs and zoning

A programmable thermostat plus TRVs on each radiator is the sensible minimum. For larger homes, we design zoned controls — upstairs/downstairs, or main house + extension — so you're not heating unused space. Smart controls are welcome, but only if wired to manufacturer spec.

Water treatment

Every system we install or upgrade gets a magnetic filter and fresh inhibitor. On dirty systems we also add a cleanser during the flush. This is non-optional — manufacturers void warranties on systems without correct water treatment.

Frequently Asked

The questions we hear on the phone.

Nothing here is generic — these are answers we give West London customers every week.

Ask us directly
How long does a full central heating install take?

A full system replacement on an average 3-bed home is typically 3–5 days. Simpler jobs — radiator swaps, controls upgrades, single-zone additions — are usually done in a day.

Will you need to lift my floors?

Where possible we route pipes through existing voids and take up minimum flooring. On upgrades in properties with solid floors, we'll discuss surface-mounted runs versus chased routes on the quote.

Do I need a power flush?

Not always. If your system water is clean, a chemical clean plus a magnetic filter is enough. If it's dirty, a power flush protects the new components and preserves the boiler warranty.

Can I add a smart thermostat?

Yes. We install Nest, Hive and Vaillant vSMART correctly wired to your system. If you buy the unit, we'll install and commission it as part of the job.

How much do radiator swaps cost?

Single radiator swaps are usually a half-day job. We give a fixed price per radiator after seeing the size, valve type and pipework.

Do you install underfloor heating?

We install wet underfloor heating as part of larger design & build and refurbishment projects — see the design & build page.

What guarantee is included?

New boiler installations carry a 2-year manufacturer's guarantee. Radiator and system components carry the manufacturer's standard warranty period.

Can you service my system annually?

Yes. Annual boiler servicing and system checks keep everything running efficiently and warranties valid.
